Shipping rates — common questions
Are there hidden fees?
No. Our per-kg rates include pickup or receiving, air freight, customs clearance and delivery. For USA → Kenya, KRA duty and VAT on personal goods are included too. The only extras are export certificates (flat KSh 1,000 each), FDA Prior Notice for food, KRA duty at cost on electronics (phones, laptops, tablets, game consoles) going to Kenya, and express or fragile handling for local deliveries. The one exception: if customs, the FDA or KRA holds a shipment because it was poorly packed, unsealed, mis-declared or flagged as suspicious, the inspection, storage (demurrage) and extra customs costs are passed on at cost.
How is the chargeable weight calculated?
We charge on the higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight (length × width × height in cm ÷ 6,000).
What are the minimum charges?
Kenya to USA: $125, which covers up to 5.5 kg, so fill the box. USA to Kenya: $25 (small parcels under 5 kg may take up to a week longer, as they fly on consolidations). Amazon FBA: 15 kg minimum.
Do you give discounts for larger shipments?
Yes. Kenya to USA drops from $22/kg to $15/kg at 300 kg, and Amazon FBA drops from $22/kg to $13/kg at 300 kg. Businesses that send local deliveries daily get rates from KSh 400. You never pay more than the next band would cost: if a bigger band is cheaper (47 kg at $22 is $1,034, but 50 kg at $20 is $1,000), we bill the bigger band's price, so the extra kilos are free.
