Undeclared or misdeclared contents delay clearance and may result in goods being held at JKIA or the destination customs authority. Ship Imara is not liable for delays arising from misdeclaration. If a shipment is held for inspection because it is poorly packed, unsealed or unlabelled, mis-declared or flagged as suspicious (food especially), the inspection, storage (demurrage) and extra customs costs are passed on to you at cost and must be paid before release.

Every item must be declared. This is a legal requirement for export documentation. JKIA customs and destination customs authorities may inspect contents.

Cargo insurance: Every shipment is covered up to $100 for loss or damage while in our care. For anything worth more, add full-value cargo insurance below — 2% of the declared value (minimum $25). Without it, our liability is limited to $100 per shipment. Ship Imara is not liable for loss or damage to undeclared, undervalued, or prohibited items.

Shipments found to contain prohibited items will be stopped, reported to KRA and relevant authorities, and the sender will be held fully liable for any penalties or legal consequences.

Export Documentation

Standard documents (commercial invoice, packing list, KRA C63 declaration) are included in your rate. Agricultural certificates (KEPHIS, COO) are charged at government cost plus a small handling fee — see breakdown when you tick below. Government fees may change with regulatory updates.

Commercial Invoice — prepared by Ship Imara from your contents declaration. Included in all shipments. Packing List — itemised list of contents, weights, and dimensions. Included in all shipments. KRA Export Declaration (Form C63) — filed electronically with Kenya Revenue Authority. Included in all shipments. Certificate of Origin (KNCCI) — Recommended for agricultural & commercial exports. Under AGOA (African Growth and Opportunity Act), a valid COO means your US recipient pays 0% import duty — without it they may pay 5–25% duty on top of your shipment cost. Also qualifies for 0% duty to the UK under DCTS. Auto-suggested for food & agricultural shipments.
Fee: KSh 1,000 flat (~$8). We handle KNCCI application, certificate, and attestation. · Optional — you may obtain from any Chamber of Commerce yourself. KEPHIS Phytosanitary Certificate — mandatory for all agricultural exports: coffee, tea, avocado, flowers, dried herbs, and all food produce. Kenya customs will reject the shipment without it.
Fee: KSh 0.50/kg + KSh 500 certificate (min ~$8). We handle the full application, inspection coordination, and certificate issuance. Full-value cargo insurance — covers the full declared value against loss or damage. Strongly recommended above $500; required above $2,000.
Fee: 2% of declared value, minimum $25 . Without it, cover is limited to $100 per shipment. FDA Prior Notice Filing — mandatory by US law for all food, beverages, supplements, and agricultural products entering the USA. Without it, US Customs will hold or reject your shipment. We file on your behalf, or you may file yourself free at access.fda.gov.

Sender Declaration

I confirm that the contents described above are accurate and complete. I have not omitted any item from the declaration. I confirm that the shipment does not contain any prohibited items as listed in Section 6, and that the goods are legal to export from Kenya and import into the destination country. I understand that misdeclaration of contents or value is a criminal offence under the East African Customs Management Act and may result in seizure, penalties, and prosecution. I agree to Ship Imara's Terms & Conditions and understand that full payment is required before collection and is non-refundable once the shipment has been collected from my premises. I also agree that if my shipment is held for inspection because of poor packing, missing labels, mis-declared contents or anything flagged as suspicious, I will pay the inspection, storage (demurrage) and extra customs costs at cost before the goods are released. I authorise Ship Imara Logistics Limited to act as my export agent for this shipment, including filing export declarations with KRA on my behalf.
